Free Falling

Trapped, entangled, tumbling downward.

Staring at me – in chaos.

Glowing lines of random acrylic paint.

Freely floating away from disorder.

A bright world of blissful freedom.

Original artwork, acrylic on canvas with diagonal paper collage effect. Ready to hang, 122cm wide x 91cm tall.   $890.

Often, when entering a group art exhibition, we are presented with a theme which we must convey through our painting. The theme “Transition” was one upon which I had to offer my conceptual vision.

A transition in life may consist of a chaotic change where you feel trapped in an entangled, tumbling, downward spiral. I had progressed well into the painting which was to be titled “Falling Man”. Heading for completion, the finishing effect I wanted just wouldn’t come. Project abandoned!

So for a year or so the unfinished piece sat in the corner of my studio staring at me, in chaos. Recently, whilst sifting through my art “stuff”, I stumbled across sheets of paper glowing with lines of random acrylic paint that I’d used to achieve a base colour effect on another painting. It was perfect. I tore it up into long strips and adhered it over my falling man with a clear adhesive acrylic paint medium.

Now titled “Free Falling”, the brightly colourful vision represents my man freely floating out from a state of entrapment in chaotic disorder, into a brightly coloured world of blissful freedom.
